It’s not long until our church weekend away at the end of April! We’ll head to the beautiful Sussex countryside to spend time together as a church family. Here are all the details you’ll need in the run-up.

The basics

 
 

What?

In a nutshell, there will be plenty of worship, teaching, fun and relaxation.

We will also have social time together, including meals, walks, outdoor activities and Saturday evening entertainment.

When?

Friday (evening) 25th - Sunday (afternoon) 27th April 2025

Where?

Ashburnham Place, Battle, TN33 9NF.

It’s a former Manor House with 220 acres of stunning grounds and lakes, now converted for use as a Christian retreat centre.

 

 

PACKING

Towels and bedding are provided for those in housed accommodation only.

Suggested items:

  • Toiletries

  • Pyjamas

  • Walking shoes

  • Warm water-resistant coat

  • Bible

  • Snacks for the coach/car journeys and in between meals

  • Water bottle/thermos

  • Sports gear for a run/frisbee/football

  • Board games

  • Hairdryer

If you are camping, please bring the following:

  • Roll mat

  • Sleeping bag (we recommend a 3-season sleeping bag. A duvet won’t cut it!)

  • Pillow

  • Blanket

  • Towel

  • Torch

Camping

Here are a few more details just for campers.

Tents

Tents will be pitched for you. When you arrive, please check in so we can register you, hand over some goodies and direct you to your allocated tent.

Meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided for everyone and served in the main building.

Amenities

Campers will have their own nearby toilet/shower blocks.

Night-time

The curfew for those camping is the same as the rest of the site. Please be quiet between 11pm and 7.30am.

In April, temperatures can occasionally dip to 0 degrees at night. Please bear this in mind and pack warm clothes, a thick sleeping bag, and blankets.

HOUSEKEEPING NOTES

Check-in

When you arrive at the venue, head to the Great Hall (see map) to check in. We will provide you with a schedule for the weekend, some goodies, and directions to your tent/room.

If you are sleeping in housed accommodation, we will hand you the keys to your bedroom.

Check-out

Please drop off your keys at the Welcome Lounge before the main session on Sunday morning. Failure to return keys will result in a £20 charge to yourself.

Disabled access

Meeting rooms and dining rooms within the main house are step-free, and Ashburnham has three accessible rooms on site (one room in Patmos Lodge and two rooms in Ashbourne House).

Front gates

The front gates will be closed from 10pm on Friday, and between 5.30pm and 6.30am on Saturday and Sunday. Please note there are no staff on duty after 11pm so please call Takita, Riley or Michelle (details below) if you need access to open the front gates after that time.

Night-time quiet policy

Please be quiet between 11pm and 7.30am. During this time, feel free to continue to use the meeting rooms, the Prayer Centre or the Welcome Lounge. Please turn the lights off when you have finished in the area.

Smoking

Smoking or vaping is not permitted inside any of the buildings.

TRAVEL

Coach

We have booked a few coaches to take us from LNS to Ashburnham on Friday night. The coaches will depart promptly at 6pm. Please note, if you are late we won’t be able to wait for you. We recommend you arrive at LNS by 5.30pm to avoid disappointment.

We will return from Ashburnham to LNS via coach after lunch on Sunday.

Car

From South East London and the Dartford Tunnel

Take the A21 through Pembury, Lamberhurst and Robertsbridge. At John’s Cross roundabout, take the second exit onto the A2100 signposted to Battle. On the outskirts of Battle, at the roundabout, turn right onto the A271 signposted Bexhill. The entrance to Ashburnham Place is on the right, about four miles from Battle, 200 yards after a sharp bend.

From South West London and Heathrow Airport

Take the M25 anti-clockwise to Junction 6, then take the A22 through Godstone, East Grinstead, Forest Row and down to Horsebridge (the Boship Hotel roundabout). Take the second exit onto the A271. Continue through Magham Down, Herstmonceux and Windmill Hill to Boreham Street. After leaving Boreham Street the A271 turns left, signposted Battle. After about 2 miles you will see Ashburnham Place on the left-hand side at the brow of the hill.

There is no electric charging point on site. To find local charging points, head to www.zap-map.com.


Rail

There is usually at least an hourly service from Charing Cross and Waterloo East to Battle via Sevenoaks and Tonbridge. Battle Station is about 5 miles from Ashburnham Place. Taxis are available outside the station.

There is also an hourly service from Victoria to Bexhill via Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick and Eastbourne. Bexhill Station is roughly 7 miles from Ashburnham Place. Taxis are available outside the station.

Our nearest train station is Battle, which is approximately 5 miles away. We suggest you book taxis to and from the station in advance.
